Statement on Trump administration rejoining the "Geneva Consensus Declaration"

We are disgusted by the Trump administration’s decision to commit the United States to an international agreement to undercut global reproductive freedom and autonomy.

The so-called “Geneva Consensus Declaration” is an agreement among some of the most oppressive governments in the world, which all have disgraceful human rights records. It’s a pledge to work together to weaken access to safe, legal abortion around the world.

Access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including contraceptives and safe abortion, is a fundamental human right. Reproductive freedom is essential to a person’s health, autonomy, and economic security.

The United States government should be working to promote human rights, rather than joining with those dedicated to violating them. As always, when faced with a choice between abusers and their victims, Donald Trump is standing with the abusers.
